⚖️ Penalty settings and management
Find where each penalty rule is actually configured, what the four clan rules do by default, and how to correct or remove a penalty that has already been applied.
You either want to change how your clan penalises, or you have a penalty in front of you that needs correcting. Those are two different pages, and neither of them is called "Penalty Settings" in the menu.
Where each thing lives
| What you want to do | Where |
|---|---|
| Switch a clan-wide rule on or off, set its amount and its chest | Clan Management → Clan Settings, then the ⚖️ Penalty System card and its Edit button |
| Set the penalties for one event | On the event itself, under Clan Management → Events |
| Set the targets a cycle judges people against, or spare a whole Guardsmen level | Clan Management → Crypt Cycles |
| Spare one member permanently | On their own player page, opened from Clan Management → Clan Members, in the Penalty Settings card |
| Review, correct, delete or restore a penalty that already exists | Clan Management → Penalties Applied |
| Create a penalty chest | Clan Management → Chest Catalog |
Nothing works until you have penalty chests
Every rule asks you to pick a penalty chest, and that dropdown is filled only from chests in your own catalog that carry the Mark as penalty chest switch. With no penalty chests, every dropdown is empty and no penalty can be written at all, whatever the toggles say.
Make one chest per rule and name it after the rule, so the reason is readable later on a member's record.
The four clan rules
All four are in one slide-over. The card header counts how many are switched on, and the same figure appears as Penalty Rules in the tiles at the top of Clan Settings. In a clan nobody has configured yet, that count reads 0.
| Rule | Penalises | Its own fields | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crypt Penalty | Members who finished a cycle below their target. | Use missing sum from last cycle — on, the charge is the exact shortfall and Penalty Value disappears; off, everyone who missed gets the same flat amount. | Off · missing-sum switch off, so the flat amount applies · value 0 · no chest chosen |
| Login Penalty | Members who signed in to the portal on too few separate days during the cycle. | Minimum login days per cycle · Penalty Value | Off · minimum 0 · value 0 |
| No-User Penalty | Members with no active portal account linked to them at all. | Penalty Value | Off · value 0 |
| Gold Pass Penalty | Members the portal has not recorded as holding a Gold Pass. | When to apply penalty — either When a Chest Cycle closes or On a specific day each month, which then asks for Day of month (1-28) and Time (UTC) · Penalty Value | Off · at close · value 0 |
Every rule also has its own Penalty Chest field. Values are typed as positive numbers and applied as negatives.
Event penalties are not here
An event's point, chest and chat penalties — and its grace period — live on the event, and they all start at 0. Nothing you set in Clan Settings affects them.
The other penalty page, and why to avoid it
Reviewing what has been applied
Clan Management → Penalties Applied opens on the current chest cycle, with arrows to step backwards and forwards through cycles. You can also switch the period to This Month, Last Month or Custom — a custom range is capped at 90 days, and a longer or reversed range shows a warning and loads nothing.
- Four figures across the top: Players Penalised, Total Penalty Points, Chest Cycle Penalties and Other Penalties. "Chest Cycle" here means a penalty tied to a cycle; everything else, including event penalties, counts as "Other".
- Two views. Per Player groups by member; By Type groups by penalty chest, and can then break each type down By Date or By Player.
- Filters: Rank, G-Level, Penalty Type, a points range, a player search, and chips to show or hide the Chest Cycle and Other categories.
Clicking a member opens a panel with their totals, a breakdown per penalty type, every penalty in the period, and a Penalty History — Last 5 Chest Cycles strip that makes a pattern obvious at a glance.
What you may change
- Edit — the points and the date. Not the member, not the chest, not the rule that produced it.
- Delete — the record is hidden rather than erased, and the affected totals are recalculated. It stays visible to admins so it can be brought back.
- Restore — puts it back exactly as it was. The member is not notified a second time.
- Bulk delete or restore — tick rows or a whole group; the confirmation tells you how many records and how many points are involved before you commit.
Members only ever see active penalties, never deleted ones.
Four things you cannot do
- Add a penalty by hand. There is no button anywhere in the portal for it. Every penalty on a member's record came from one of the automatic rules.
- Reassign one. The member and the rule behind a penalty are fixed at the moment it is written.
- Record why you removed it. There is no reason field, so keep that note outside the portal.
- Make a change retroactive. Editing a value, swapping a chest or fixing a cycle's targets has no effect on penalties that already exist.
For the full picture — what sets each rule off, which cycle the result lands in, every way to exempt a member, and what re-opening a cycle rolls back — read the guide Understand the penalty system.
Common questions
I switched a penalty rule on and nothing has happened. Why?
Work through these four in order.
- No penalty chest chosen. The rule cannot write anything without one. Its summary line on the Penalty System card will read "Chest: —".
- No penalty chests exist yet. Create one in your Chest Catalog with Mark as penalty chest switched on.
- Nothing has triggered it yet. The crypt, login and no-user rules only run when a chest cycle is closed.
- The members are exempt. Check their player pages for No Penalties or No Crypt Penalties.
Can I give a member a penalty manually?
No. There is no way to create a penalty from the interface — not on Penalties Applied, not on a player page, nowhere. Every penalty is produced by an automatic rule.
What an admin can do is remove one, restore one they removed, or correct its points and date.
A member was penalised in a cycle where they hit their target. Is that wrong?
Usually not. A penalty produced when a cycle closes is written into the next cycle, dated just after it begins. So it sits at the top of a cycle it does not belong to.
Check the date on the record: if it is within minutes of the cycle start, it belongs to the cycle before.
Where do I change the penalties for a single event?
On the event, not in Clan Settings. Open Clan Management → Events and edit the event itself. Its point penalty, chest penalty, chat penalty and grace period all default to 0, and new events inherit whatever defaults you have set for that event type.
One trap worth knowing: the chest penalty is multiplied by how many chests the member was short, while the point and chat penalties are not.
